President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday called for expansion of political and economic relations with Japan, saying cooperation between Tehran and Tokyo signifies their determination to promote international stability and security.
He made the remarks in separate messages to Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga and Emperor Naruhito to congratulate them on the national holiday celebrating the birthday of the reigning emperor, President.ir reported.
In his message to the Japanese emperor, Rouhani expressed hope for the promotion of centuries-old ties between the two nations.
Addressing the prime minister, Rouhani described growing collaboration between Iran and Japan amid the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the consecutive political and security developments in the world as a sign of their determination and efforts to improve their ties in various fields with the purpose of ensuring international stability and security.
In a meeting with Japan’s new ambassador to Tehran in December 2020, President Rouhani said the new conditions would result in the presence of more Japanese companies in Iran for the development of scientific and technological projects.
Rouhani also stressed the need for the release of Iran’s financial resources held in Tokyo as a result of American sanctions and for the rapid implementation of their joint agreements.
