Health Minister Saeed Namaki said on Tuesday daily deaths caused by the coronavirus pandemic have dropped by 40% in the past three weeks, as tightened safety measures and increased public cooperation have slowed transmission rates.
“Overnight deaths have reduced to 300 from a previous 500, we have witnessed an over 40% drop in daily fatalities among patients,” the minister was quoted as saying by ISNA.
Health Deputy Minister Iraj Harirchi also pointed out that daily infections have plummeted by approximately 32% in the past couple of weeks.
Despite this “achievement”, as put by Namaki, health officials continue to urge vigilance against the contagion and express concern over home gatherings that might be held on Yalda night, a traditional celebration of the winter solstice in enclosed spaces where the virus can easily transmit from one person to another.
Harirchi said, “I’m desperately asking people to hold Yalda online … so that we can experience a calm winter with transmission rates going down.”
The event will be held on Dec. 20 this year.
