Cyber Attack on Ahvaz Power Station Denied

The Energy Ministry in Tehran ruled out the possibility of a cyber-strike or sabotage on Ahvaz Power Plant where a blast was reported on Saturday.
“Transformer explosion in the (privately-run) power station in Ahvaz had nothing to do with cyber-attacks,” Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi was quoted as saying by Bargh News.
The incident happened because the transformer got overloaded. Moreover, high temperature (50 degrees Celsius) in the oil city doubled pressure on the equipment, he said.
A fire broke out at Shahid Medhaj thermal power plant (Zargan) in southwestern Khuzestan Province late Saturday.
Peak electricity demand in the province has surpassed 8,000 megawatts, up 4.5% compared to 2019, he said.
Denying rumors on social media about a cyber-attack against the facility, the official added that the plant had not been sabotaged.
“Four gas units of the plant that were out of service due to the fire are now online.” 
The plant plays a vital role in network stability and voltage control in oil-rich Khuzestan Province. Zargan Power Plant was purchased from the government in 2005 by Saba Power and Energy Group.
Zargan power plant is located 5 km off Ahvaz-Masjed Soleyman Road and stretches over 45 hectares. It produces 418 megawatts per day. 
The plant has two steam units with 145 MW capacity each, and 4 gas units with the capacity of 32 MW each.
