The second annual exhibition of Imaginative Hands (Dastan-e Khial Pardaz in Persian) opened on January 30, CHN reported.
It showcases handicrafts, folk and traditional arts at the Iranian Artists Forum, located in Iranshar Street, Tehran. A few of the city’s galleries, including Tabestan, Bahar, Payiz, Mirmiran, and Nami are also displaying the work of artists and artisans.
Among items on display are metal trinkets, engravings, silver work, woodwork, inlays, parquetry, ornaments, glassware, paintings, illustrations, rugs, kilims, carpets, sculptures, and enameling.
The handicrafts deputy of Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO), Bahman Namvar-Motlaq, attended the opening ceremony. “The works highlight the artistic gifts of our youth,” Namvar-Motlaq said, and expressed hope that such exhibitions will help promote the handicrafts industry by increasing awareness.
Namvar-Motlaq in particular admired the metal work, wood work, and glassware. The higher prices of Iranian crafts are due to their quality and workmanship, Namvar-Motlaq noted; imported objects that are labeled “handicrafts” or “traditional” are cheaper, because of poor quality.
A total of 350 pieces by 40 prominent contemporary artists are on display. It will be open until February 6. Visiting hours are from 2 pm to 8 pm.
