Western Power Co. Expanding Output

Installed capacity of West Regional Electricity Company (WREC), which supplies to Ilam, Kermanshah and Kordestan provinces, will rise by 25% by next March, managing director of the company said.

“Daily power output, mainly from thermal power plants and combined heat and power (CHP) stations, which now is 3,500 megawatt is expected to reach 4,355 MW by the end of current fiscal,” IRNA quoted Ali Asadi as saying.

Power projects worth $32 million are being undertaken in the region that will boost supply to industrial units like Kermanshah Petrochemical Plant, Hounan Yatay ceramic company as well as East Asia United Ferroalloy Factory, which is being developed in Eslamabad-e-Gharb County in Kermanshah Province, Asadi noted.

Three CHP plants with total capacity of 25 MW will be linked to the national grid in Kordestan and Ilam provinces in July.

“Moreover, 52 small-scale solar power stations (each with 4 MW capacity) are under construction in the region.”

The length of transmission and distribution set up by WREC, a subsidiary of the Iran Power Generation Transmission & Distribution Management Company (Tavanir), exceeds 8,500 kilometers.

Dalahoo Combined Cycle Power Plant in Eslamabad-e-Gharb County and Bistoon Power Station (both in Kermanshah Province) supply the needs of 1.7 million plus homes and 3,000 industrial units in three provinces.

Referring to the newly-launched Dalahoo Power Plant, he noted that the station has two 310 MW class F gas units, a 290 MW steam unit, two boilers and a condenser unit.

“The first unit was launched last November and the other two will become operational by the end of 2020, adding 600 MW to the plant’s daily capacity.”

An undertaking of the private sector, the plant is owned and constructed by Farab Company and has a efficiency rate of 56%. Domestic manufactures provided half the equipment used in the plant.

Farab has taken part in international projects and built power plants in Iraq, Tajikistan and Kenya.

Power Export

WREC exports electricity to three regions in Iraq, including Khanaqin close to the border, Diyala governorate in eastern Iraq, and Penjwein in Sulaymaniyah governorate.

Close to 1,500 MW is exported to Iraq on a daily basis.

Iran is the largest exporter and importer of electricity in the Middle East. It exports power to Pakistan, Turkey, Iraq and Afghanistan. Azerbaijan and Armenia sell electricity to Iran under swap agreements.

According to the director of Kermanshah Customs Administration, Khalil Heydari, more than 284,410 tons of goods worth $112.8 million were exported from Kermanshah customs in the first month of the current Iranian year (March 19-April 19).

Exports mainly included tomato paste, watermelon, cheese, Persian melon, apples, milk, cream, biscuits, cucumber, water coolers and eggplants.

Close to 198 types of goods were exported to eight countries during the period. Most of the goods went to Iraq and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. Around half of Iran’s total non-oil export to Iraq goes via Kermanshah Province with six border crossings.
