The second round of the parliamentary election scheduled to be held in several constituencies on March 18 has been postponed to Sept. 12 at the suggestion of the Interior Ministry due to the current epidemic of the new coronavirus.
Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani-Fazli had proposed two dates for the runoff election and Sept. 12 was confirmed by the Guardians Council, Abbas Ali Kadkhodaei, the council's spokesman, told IRNA.
The 11th round of the parliamentary election was held on Feb. 21, but went on to the second round in 11 out of 208 constituencies.
The coronavirus epidemic started in Iran in late February and has so far killed over 700 people with roughly 14,000 confirmed cases of infection.
People have been advised to stay at home and avoid unnecessary journeys and intercity travel, as well as social gatherings in the runup to the Iranian New Year holidays, which starts on Friday.
