Modern irrigation systems have been installed on 100,000 hectares of farmlands across the country since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2019), according to the chairman of Modern Irrigation Systems Project implemented by the Agriculture Ministry.
“Many similar projects are underway, which will cover an additional 138,000 hectares when completed,” Abbas Zare’ was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
He added that in the last fiscal year (March 2018-19), 143,000 hectares were equipped with modern irrigation systems.
Zare’ noted that a modern irrigation system saves water, brings about sustainable production and reduces the use of fertilizers, pesticides and energy on farms.
