President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday traveled to the flood-stricken southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan to oversee relief operations.
Heavy rainfall, which started on Jan. 9, caused flash flooding in Sistan-Baluchestan, Kerman and Hormozgan, destroying thousands of houses, displacing hundreds of people and causing at least three fatalities.
Sistan-Baluchestan suffered the greatest damage to its infrastructure, which is estimated to have cost $53 million, President.ir reported.
"Rest assured that the government and all of us are standing beside you, [and will make every effort to] solve your problems and will not forsake you," the president said.
Rouhani ordered the acceleration of relief operations in the province, where rain gauge stations registered more than 100 millimeters of rain on three days, equivalent to a year's rainfall in the region.
