A total of 320,000 tons of pistachios have been produced in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21), an Agriculture Ministry official said.
Kerman Province is a top pistachio-producing province with 100,000 tons of output so far this year, followed by Khorasan Razavi, Yazd, Fars, South Khorasan, Semnan, Markazi and Qom,” Darab Hassani was also quoted as saying by ILNA.
Iran is the world’s top pistachio exporter, besides the US.
Hassani expects exports to exceed 150,000 tons by the end of the current fiscal year (March 19, 2020).
Iran’s annual domestic demand for pistachio amounts to 35,000-45,000 tons, accounting for 20% of the total output.
On average, Iran exports 80% of its total pistachio yields, of which 80% go to only 10 countries.
Germany, Afghanistan, the UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, India, Iraq, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are the main buyers of Iranian pistachio.
