Refrigerated warehouses’ capacity in Iran has increased from 25 kilograms per capita in the fiscal 2012-13 to 65 kilograms per capita in the current year (March 2019-20), according to Changiz Esfandiari, the director general of Food Processing Industries Department of Agriculture Ministry.
Refrigerated warehouses’ capacity per capita for developed countries is between 60 and 70 kilograms, he added.
Esfandiari said refrigeration of agricultural products plays an important role in reducing waste, increasing productivity and improving exports, Fars News Agency reported.
“By the end of March 2013, the capacity of refrigerated warehouses’ in the country stood at 2 million tons. Since then, their capacity has increased to around 5.1 million tons,” he said.
