Iran’s sprint cycling team was forced to hold its training session under the dusty weather in Ahvaz, Khuzestan Province.

The dust phenomenon which has blanketed the southern regions for weeks also led to the cancelation of two football matches in the series of Persian Gulf Pro League games, ISNA reported.

The match between Foolad and Peykan at Qadir Stadium in Ahvaz on January 19 was declared delayed by one day due to the smog and dust. But not really! The game was cancelled again due to bad weather conditions.

The cycling team is preparing for the Asian Track Cycling Championships to be held February 16-20 in Ipoh, capital city of the Malaysian state of Perak.

Among the cities in Iran, Ahvaz is the only one with a cycling circuit having similar weather conditions as Malaysia. However, the track does not meet the needs of the cyclists.

A standard velodrome for the sprint cyclists is made of wood but the one in Ahvaz is of concrete.

Cyclists hope that they can arrive in Malaysia a few days prior to the games to practice on the wooden velodrome at the event venue.

The 38th edition of the Asian event offers cyclists ranking points for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
