8 Weightlifters Ranked Among World’s Top Ten

The International Weightlifting Federation has released a list of top lifters in different weight categories for 2017 after the World Weightlifting Championships in Anaheim, California (November 28-December 5). It includes eight Iranians.

Sohrab Moradi of 94kg category tops the ranking in his class after winning three gold medals of all three divisions (snatch, clean and jerk, total) in the American tournament.

He also set a new world record at the games in clean and jerk as well as total with 233kg and 417kg respectively, Azad News Agency reported.

In the same category, Seyyed Ayoub Mousavi holds the seventh rank. Mousavi finished third in the Anaheim games with only a bronze medal for clean and jerk by lifting 214 kg.

In +105kg division Saeed Alihosseini enjoys second place after Lasha Talakhadze from Georgia. Alihosseini was away from the competitions for eight years and in his first international appearance won two bronze medals in snatch as well as clean and jerk. He also won silver in the total.

Another Iranian weightlifter in the +105kg class, Behdad Salimi, is placed third in the ranking. He won silver in snatch by handling the 211kg barbell as well as bronze for total with 453kg record.

Moreover, Ali Hashemi, Mohammad-Reza Barari and Alireza Soleymani are ranked third, fifth and tenth in the 105kg category respectively.

 Hashemi bagged three medals including a gold in snatch for 183kg, silver in clean and jerk by hitting at the 221kg barrel and gold medal for the total of 404kg  at the World Championships.

Barari did not compete in the US but according to his previous records he is fifth in the ranking. Soleymani was present at the games but could not rise above seventh place.
