A three-day startup weekend titled In-Tech was held at Azadi Innovation Factory in Tehran from May 1-3, mainly focusing on the participation of women in tech.
Eager and talented participants, largely constituting women, were initially introduced to the general process of establishing a startup. Then they formed teams of four to six members and developed startup ideas in collaboration with mentors, Webna reported.
The event focused on renovating the country's water and electricity industries by applying cutting-edge technologies.
The teams were required to come up with innovative ideas for monitoring and metering water and electricity consumption, along with smart solutions for water and power management strategies.
Participants then sat down to devise a business plan and develop innovative ideas.
Finally, they presented their business plans before a panel of judges, which selected the best three groups.
The winners were awarded cash prizes and linked up with water and power authorities and their affiliated companies.
On the sidelines of the startup event, experts in the field highlighted the cases of successful women in the fields of technology to motivate entrepreneurs to become proactive and transcend the glass ceilings in the sector.
Giving support to fledgling startups and knowledge-based companies has been one of the priorities of the government since President Hassan Rouhani began his first tenure in 2013.
The notable achievements of such companies in various fields can already be observed nationwide.
