The 142nd birth anniversary of ICT Ministry was marked on Tuesday in Tehran.
On the orders of former king Naser al-Din Shah Qajar the Iran Telegraph Ministry was founded on March 12, 1877. Over the past 14 decades it has evolved and is now known as the ICT Ministry.
In 1908 the Ministry of Telegraph was merged into the Post Ministry and the entity was renamed the Post and Telegraph Ministry.
In the late 1920s, with increased application of telephony services, especially in Tehran, the ministry acquired the local telephone operator company and henceforth was called Post, Telegraph and Telephone Ministry.
Following the rise in importance of information technologies the ministry once again underwent reforms in 2004 and became the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.
Amin-al-Molk was the first person to lead the ministry.  Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi is the ICT minister. He is the youngest member of the Cabinet and the first Iranian minister born after the 1979 Revolution.
