Robotic Pharmacy Opens in Iran's Urmia City

Iran’s first smart pharmacy opened at the Tadbir Medical Complex in Urmia, West Azarbaijan Province. Utilizing robotic technology, the robot is capable of dispensing medication automatically. It is hoped that the robot will help increase the medical center’s efficiency and profit.

The smart system scans prescriptions, picks the drugs from the shelf with a robotic hand, puts them in packages and finally dispenses them to customers, Mehr News Agency reported.

Furthermore, the robotic pharmacy can be connected to an online platform through which it can directly receive prescriptions from physicians and prepare the medicine.

Employing smart methods can reduce the risk of  medicine getting mixed up as the drugs are handled by machines and not humans who are more prone to error.

Studies indicate that employing digital prescriptions, computerized physician entry, and smart development in medication-management reduce errors to a significant level.

A Finnish firm provided Tadbir Medical Complex with 12 billion rials ($96,000), part of which has been used for establishing the robotic pharmacy and the rest will be used for expanding the medical complex.

The pharmacy was officially inaugurated by Health Minister Seyed Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi last week.
