Tehran Municipality has signed a deal with communication operators to expand the Iranian capital’s tech infrastructure and transform Tehran into a smart city.
During a Saturday event, TM’s head of Information and Communications Technology Organization, Mohammad Farjoud, signed a trilateral agreement with representatives from Mobile Telecommunications Company of Iran and internet service provider Mobinnet, ISNA reported.
Based on the deal, MCI will invest in the development of urban tech ecosystem and ICT infrastructures in Tehran, while Mobinnet provides urban agencies and businesses with enhanced internet services.
Speaking at the signing event, Farjoud said since the Smart Tehran project was designed in 2018 by TM, the municipality started to tap the potentials of private sector for upgrading urban tech services.
“With the expansion of IoT usage throughout the world, Iran has also moved in the same direction, such that the footprint of new technologies can be seen in many urban services,” he added.
Mehdi Gheinaqi, a member of MCI’s board of directors, said the use of IoT in urban management can reduce costs and energy while raising productivity.
Pointing to the fact that the vast usage of IoT in urban atmospheres requires a strong ICT infrastructure, Gheinaqi said, “Although the current agreement has devised a good plan, the government’s collaboration and financial support should be the driving force to push the work forward.”
