Lawmaker Asghar Salimi says the Plasco Building that collapsed in January following a huge blaze would be reconstructed.

“The new Plasco building in Tehran will have 12 stories, including five floors for parking.”

He said the decision was made during a meeting in the parliament attended by Mohammad Saeedi Kia, head of Mostazafan Foundation (owner of Plasco) on Sunday, IRNA reported.   The building will be constructed on land area of 32,000 sq meters and completed in two years. He didn’t say whether it will come up at the same premises or be relocated.  The 17-storey Plasco commercial tower in Jomhouri Street, Iran’s oldest high-rise and an iconic structure in downtown Tehran, built in 1962, caught fire on January 19 and was completely destroyed. In the incident, sparked by an electrical short circuit, 16 fire fighters and four civilians lost their lives. Some 70 people were injured.
