The first comprehensive laboratory for blood type and genotype has been inaugurated at the Iran Blood Transfusion Organization.
The lab is said to be the only one of its kind in the Middle East on par with benchmarks set by European and American labs, and complying with standards of molecular labs worldwide.
International societies and blood transfusion institutes across the world have shifted their focus towards molecular determination of blood antigens, and the new lab will facilitate Iran on this path.
Aside from providing a research center for students of the field and related majors, the lab will play a pivotal role in identifying, collecting, storing, and supplying compatible blood types, IRNA reports.
