There are 30 aerial emergency stations across the country and some more will be added by the end of the current year in March, said Pirhossein Kolivand, head of Emergency Medical Services (EMS), on the sidelines of the 3rd international conference on neurotrauma in Tehran on Wednesday.

During the first 9 months of the current year, 11,000 people lost their lives in road crashes across the country, IRNA reported.

“Slow transfer of a critically injured person from the crash site to the operation room is a major contributor of fatalities in road crashes. Increasing the number of aerial emergency centers is a necessity,” Kolivand said.

Rehabilitation for persons with traumatic brain injuries, strategies to prevent head trauma, obstacles to provision of timely medical care to patients after road accidents, were some of the topics discussed at the conference.
