The Foreign Ministry is aiming to expand medical tourism in Iran by attracting six million tourists on a yearly basis.
“This objective requires the collaboration of all organizations in this sector and the Foreign Ministry is doing everything in its power to boost tourism,” Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mahdi Safari was quoted as saying by IRNA on Monday.
He revealed this agenda at a meeting named “assessment of obstacles and solutions to expand tourism diplomacy in the post-Covid era,” held at the Foreign Ministry and attended by as many as 40 officials active in the tourism industry.
Mohammad Hossein Niknam, Director General of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Health, pointed out that Iran had great potential for medical tourism due to its excellent medical experts, the low cost of treatment compared to other countries, high quality of medical services, specialized hospitals and tourist attractions.
He added, “Currently over one million tourists use domestic medical services every year.”
During the meeting, it was pointed out that the main issue facing medical tourism in Iran was the conflicting approaches that the related organizations held and that problem is now being rectified by the establishment of a council dedicated to medical tourism.
