Water Training in Japan

More than 350 Iranian experts have received training in Japan pertaining to preserving non-revenue water over the past three years, an official at the National Water and Wastewater Engineering Company said. Ali Seyyedzadeh added that the experts were dispatched in nine delegations, IRNA reported on Saturday. "The training courses are set to continue next year," he said. Non-revenue water refers to water that has been produced and lost before it reaches the customer. Losses can be real losses (through leaks, sometimes also referred to as physical losses) or apparent losses (through theft or metering inaccuracies). According to the official, the management of dwindling water resources is more challenging in rural areas due to decentralized networks and lack of water meters. According to Seyyedzadeh, the share of non-revenue water in total produced water is 31% in Iranian rural areas, while it stands at 26% in urban areas. With an average of 5%, Singapore has the lowest rate of non-revenue water in the world while it is 7% in Japan.
