The ninth refinery of the South Pars Gas Complex is almost self-sufficient in the manufacture of equipment and parts used in the refinery, the deputy director of the complex said.
“In this year's overhaul of the complex, relying on the knowledge, commitment and expertise of local manufacturers, we have achieved more than 90% self-sufficiency in supplying equipment and parts of fixed devices required in the facilities,” the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana also quoted Alireza Hoqouqi as saying.
The refinery is the largest processing facility in the SP Gas Field in the city of Asalouyeh, Bushehr Province, processing 11% of Iran’s gas and supplying 16% of the total South Pars output.
The refinery is one of the 14 in Asalouyeh processing natural gas drawn from the giant SP Gas Field shared between Iran and Qatar.
According to the Oil Ministry and the National Iranian Gas Company, the daily gas production capacity of South Pars has reached 750 million cubic meters.
The field’s development has helped expand gas supply to rural areas. In 2013, an estimated 14,000 villages were connected to the national grid but now over 30,000 villages have access to piped gas.
According to the latest report, over 80% of the equipment at SPGC are manufactured with indigenous knowhow.
The giant gas complex is fully overhauled with the help of domestic specialists and relies heavily on domestic expertise for procuring its measuring and electrical instruments. Domestic engineers also maintain its turbines and pumps.
