Iranian participants in the 23d round of the Robotics World Cup have succeeded in earning a handful of titles, with school teams doing far better than university line-ups. The competition was held by the Federation of International Robot-Sport Association (FIRA) in Taiwan.

The competition, better known as FIRA 2018, was held in Taichung from August 6 to 12. Some 250 teams from 20 countries took part in this edition, 35 of which were from Iran, reported IRNA.

FIRA is a competition among different nations, in developing autonomous humanoids to handle various sports-related tasks and races.

Amirkabir University of Technology’s Micro Aerial Autonomous System (AUTMAV) came third in one of the main parts titled the Challenge League’s Mission, right after China and Taiwan.

Teams from Danesh School which has several branches were able to win various titles in the race. Danesh School’s X-Prime project earned them the championship in the urban crisis management section while Danesh EXPress was placed second.

Robot Sports league for students under 19 granted the second title to Danesh School’s Plus program. Another Tehran-based school Salam Dibaji finished third in the same category.

Salam Sadr School managed to become the champion of the contest between students under 14.

FIRA was founded in June 1997 with the goal of promoting robotics technologies among younger generations. FIRA Cup has been held annually since then. Through various events, enthusiasts are helped to gain a better understanding of science and technology.

Australia, Brazil, China and France, among many others, have all hosted the FIRA Cup. The event has now attained world recognition as a robotic festival. FIRA 2018 targeted the promotion of artificial intelligence.
