On the sidelines of a conference of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators' Council (SATRC) in Tehran, Iran's ICT Minister Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi met with the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity 's secretary general Areewan Haorangsi to discuss expansion of collaborations.
Held from May 7 to 9, the event's main theme was looking into the technical perspectives of the 5G Internet and the Internet of Things, creating a roadmap for development and application of the technologies and formulating policies for them, the ministry's website reported.
The SATRC is responsible for discussion and coordination of all the regulatory issues related to information and communications technology which are of common interest to the council members.
During his talks with Haorangsi, the ICT minister pointed to the exponential expansion of the ICT sector in the country in recent years and said, "Iran has been a member of the council since its inception and has closely collaborated with other members."
The council currently consists of nine countries namely, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
