Internet tariffs are not to be increased during the next fiscal year that starts in March, Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology announced on the sidelines of a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi added that in all markets, Internet costs are being decreased,” implying that the ministry expects local Internet service providers to follow suit. Cutting costs of using Internet services has been a top priority of the ministry under Jahromi. In a bid to increase access to the Internet, last December the ministry in collaboration with the Communications Regulatory Authority introduced a mandatory landline Internet Fair Usage Policy, which has been designed to lower Internet tariffs and allow users to download more data.
