Two workshops in the field of information and communications technology will be held in Tehran by the Faculty of Applied Science of Post and Telecommunications (ICT Faculty), which is affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with the International Telecommunications Union.

ICT Faculty’s Dean Vahid Yazdian said Iran is waiting for ITU’s green light to announce the final dates on which the workshops are to be held.

The courses are themed “Information Security” and “High-Speed Communications”, Mehr News Agency reported.

Yazdian noted that promoting cybersecurity and equipping locals with the know-how in the field are of utmost importance to Iranian officials.

After Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi took over the reins of Telecoms Ministry, cybersecurity has been put on top of the government’s agenda.

The government’s efforts have heightened after the rising waves of attacks by different malwares.

As in the most recent case, a ransomware named Tyrant targeted Iranian computers that run on Microsoft Windows. It is a kind of cyberattack that involves hackers taking control of a computer system and blocking access to it until a ransom is paid.

The workshops will be part of extensive collaborations between ITU and ICT Faculty. The local higher-education body represented Iran at ITU Telecom World 2017, an international event held in Busan, South Korea, in September.

Earlier in July, the ICT Faculty and ITU held a three-day workshop on the Internet of Things in Tehran. The Telecoms Ministry and the Chinese Academy of ICT contributed to the event.
