Telecoms Minister Mahmoud Vaezi unveiled the third and final phase of the National Information Network (NIN) on July 16.

With the initial phase launched in August 2016, the project aims to enhance  public access to information and communication technology, the ministry website reported.

Several thousand communication centers have been upgraded through the scheme, including 16,582 antennas through which mobile Internet services are offered.

The ministry has also set up infrastructure for offering IP Business Bundles through the NIN, giving local firms discounts on tariffs.

An Business Bundle is designed for small and medium-sized businesses that want a cost-effective way to carry voice and data over Internet. This service works with any type of existing telephone system and does not require additional investment in costly infrastructure or desktop equipment.

Moreover, the government is set to increase the number of national Internet exchange points (IXPs) which are physical infrastructure through which Internet service providers (ISPs) and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) exchange Internet traffic between their networks.

The country currently has six IXPs in Tehran, Mashhad, Tabriz, Shiraz and Qom and Ahvaz.
