IoT Workshop Forges Regional Cooperation

Iran’s Faculty of Applied Science of Post and Telecommunication hosted a three-day international workshop on Internet of Things in Tehran, which ended over the weekend.
The workshop was organized jointly by the International Telecommunications Union, the Faculty of ICT, Iran’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the Chinese Academy of ICT under the auspices of the ITU ASP COE, according to the official website of Telecoms Ministry.
The event was aimed at promoting collaboration with West Asian countries like Iran and Asia-Pacific states following consultations with ITU.
ITU was in charge of monitoring the workshop, which was attended by a number of international academics, as well as Iranian instructors and the chairman of the study group for the Internet of Things and smart cities.
The Geneva-based United Nations agency commonly evaluates how its scientific institutions rank in ICT research and development field with regard to connectivity challenges and solutions.
Vahid Yazdian, the dean of ICT Faculty, noted that the workshop was held in the wake of valuable experiences of cooperation with ITU, saying such measures would bear a significant impact on development of technology in the country.
A steering committee has been formed at the Iranian faculty for making the optimal use of the workshop by collecting the views of industry, regulatory and academic sectors.
“The interconnectedness of Internet of Things and other branches of technology is of a very high importance both for us [Iran’s tech sector] and the International Telecommunications Union,” Yazdian said.
IoT applications allow users to monitor and control everything from fridges to citywide metro systems by connecting remote sensors with computers, mobile phones and smartwatches.
