Budget Smartphones on the Way

The Nokia 8 will be offered for $469.

Nokia’s reentry into the smartphone market was celebrated by the announcement of phones that are slick, but decidedly mid-range: Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3.

However, a recent leak teases that something much closer to a flagship-status device could be coming soon, TechRadar reported.

The so-called Nokia 8 will rock a bezel-free design, even going as far as wrapping the screen around the sides a bit like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The ultra-slim top and bottom bezels really put the focus on the rumored 2K resolution six-inch display.

The rounded-edge look of this device does not appear to be too far off from some previous Nokia designs, though it does look fairly thin.

Around the phone, it looks like we’ll be treated to the usual suspects of ports and features, like a USB-C charging port, front-facing camera and a 3.5-mm headphone jack.

The Nokia 8 will come with a Snapdragon 835, 128 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM, all of which points toward a truly powerful smartphone for 2017.

The most tantalizing bit of info is its price, which is stated to be 3,188 Chinese yuan, which converts roughly to $469. For a phone with these specs, that is unbelievably affordable.

 Samsung Galaxy J Series

Budget phones are often very popular due to the attractive pricing. If you are planning to get one, you might want to consider Samsung’s upcoming Pro version of the Galaxy J Series.

The J Series is the South Korean electronic giant’s entry level offering, in contrast to the mid-range A series and the flagship S and Note series.

In a leak from Samsung’s retailer that has been circulated online, the series will consist of three models, namely J7 Pro, J5 Pro and J3 Pro.

All three models sport a new sleek metal unibody design, while the J5 Pro and J7 Pro will have a unique U-shaped antenna band in the upper rear of the devices.

The J7 Pro has a 5.5-inch Super Amoled full-HD display, 3 GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera and a large 3,600-mAh battery, along with other advanced features such as front fingerprint sensor and always-on-display.

On the other hand, the J5 Pro has a 5.2-inch HD display, a 3,000-mAh battery and front fingerprint sensor. It has the same amount of RAM and camera as the J7 Pro.

The J3 Pro will be the base model for the series featuring a five-inch HD display, 2 GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2,400-mAh battery.

All three will reportedly run on the current generation Android OS, 7.0 Nougat.

According to the leak, the J7 Pro is set to be priced at $300 while the J5 Pro and the J3 Pro will be priced at $260 and $162 respectively.
