Mobile Virtual Network Operator NeginTel, which operates under the brand name ApTel, signed an agreement on Thursday with Tabriz’s Tractor Sazi Football Club to release branded SIM cards called AzarTel for the club.
Not to be confused with neighboring Republic of Azerbaijan’s AzerCell mobile telecoms provider, AzarTel SIMs will be licensed from the local MVNO and offer contract SIMs to supporters of the northwestern football club, according to a press release from NeginTel’s company page on LinkedIn.
In a statement on the social media website, the CEO said, [NeginTel is] pledging mutual cooperation to release AzarTel post-paid SIMS. This kind of SIM card could be revolutionary in boosting prospects and autonomy of football clubs.”
The agreement between the football club and MVNO was signed by Mostafa Ajorlu, Chairman of Tractor Sazi and Masoud Vakilinia, CEO of NeginTel. MVNO offering SIM cards with football club’s branding on them is not an entirely new concept.
Companies like LycaMobile in the UK signed a deal with West Ham United in 2014.
