New Video Website Launched

A new website called Dideo.ir, which uses a meta search engine to scour the Internet’s biggest video websites, has been launched by students at Iran’s Sharif University of Technology in Tehran. The website, which is supported by artificial intelligence, according to its developers, aims to solve the issue of blocked videos by foreign companies due to the ongoing US sanctions against Iran in this field. US media companies are banned from dealing with Iran. The website also plugs into websites such as Aparat.com, Iran’s local video hosting website, and users can view all videos in both standard and high definition. Dideo.ir is the latest of a raft of Iran-based websites looking to get round the US restrictions that block users in Iran from viewing both educational and entertainment content. According to online analytics websites, in February the website garnered some 26,000 hits, quadrupling January ratings.  Interestingly, the website’s number one viewing country is the United States, with 49.58% of overall traffic. Iranian IP addresses came in second with 34.80% through April.
