Coinciding with the 38th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, a space center was inaugurated on Thursday at Qeshm Island in south Iran.  

According to a deputy telecoms minister, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Qeshm Free Trade Zone and Qeshm Space Center to monitor red tides and aquatic animals from the new center, Tasnim News Agency reported. 

Mohsen Bahrami, said satellites are scheduled to be launched in the next fiscal year that begins in March.

“Space stations are planned to be set up in Bushehr, Chabahar, Mahdasht and Salmas,” he said without elaboration.

Also present at the ceremony in Qeshm was Telecoms Minister Mahmoud Vaezi who said plans have been made for the development of Iran’s space industry. 

The development of remote-sensing satellites will be completed over the next five years and Iranian-made telecommunication satellite will be completed in eight to ten years, the minister was quoted as saying.
