There are 23 million computer gamers in the country, 75% of whom are in the formative ages of three to 16, said the head of Iran Computer and Video Games Foundation. Iran has a population of 80 million. Khosro Kordmihan says Iran is one of the most prominent Asian countries in the area of game development “Almost 220 games have been created in the country,” ISNA quoted him as saying. He put the number uncertified games in the Iranian market at 3,500. Referring to this as a potential threat, he said the fact that “Iran not being a member of the Berne Convention on Copyright is indeed a major problem. This has resulted in the spread of counterfeit games in the market. The Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, usually known as the Berne Convention, is an international agreement governing copyright, which was first accepted in Berne, Switzerland, in 1886.
