Researchers at Iran’s Islamic Azad University, have developed a new strain of plants with the addition of FSG-plasma (fluorosilicate glass), according to Mehr News Agency. Non-thermal plasma systems have a variety of potential capabilities in various branches of science and industry, including agriculture. FSG-plasma can be used to enhance the growth rate of plants and was designed and developed indigenously by researchers at the university. According to a researcher at the institute, Shohreh Khatami, “The use of cold plasma in the agricultural industry can enhance the germination rate, elongate stems and roots and ultimately increase the yield.” The free radicals produced during the manufacturing process of plasma, stimulate growth hormones with no kind of mutation, Khatami said, adding that the stimulation enhances germination rate leading to increasing in plant growth and ultimately the end product.
