Researchers at Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology won the top prize in the innovations competition at the Eighth International Conference on Social Robotics in the US.
The project named Abrbot, which is a robot for educating and informing children on optimal water usage, won the Best Robot Design at the conference dubbed ICSR 2016 held on November 1-3 in Kansas City, USA, Mehr News Agency reported on November 5.
The project was jointly submitted to the conference by Social and Cognitive Robotics Group at the Sharif University of Technology and Islamic Azad University.
Projects and papers were submitted to ICSR 2016 by researchers from a number of countries, including Peru and France, among others.
The Iranian team participating in the competition comprised Mehdi Hatefipour, graduate student of physics and mechanical engineering; Alireza Taheri, PhD student of social robotics; Dr. Minou Alemi, social and cognitive robotics researcher; and Dr. Ali Meghdari, a professor at the university’s Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Themed “Sociorobotics”, ICSR 2016 brought together researchers and practitioners from across the world to explore interactions between humans and robots.
The annual event aims to foster discussions on the development of computational models, robotic embodiments and behavior that enable social robots to have an impact on human relations, the ICSR website said.
