Apple has launched the latest version of its MacBook Pro range in more than a year, after competition like HP crowded the top end of the slowing laptop market.

The new laptop comes with all the bells and whistles you would expect from any new top-of-the-range laptop from the American company, such as fingerprint scanner. It also continues to remove all ports, except the USB-C, the new industry standard, a press release from Apple said.

In fact, the four USB-C connectors come with Thunderbolt 3 ability used for power. The laptop does not come with an SD card reader, as previous models used to support, or HDMI for that matter. It also removes the MagSafe proprietary cable, much loved by users who often tripped over the cable when making a cup of tea.

The company did, however, introduce a new OLED touch panel above the standard keyboard, which replaces the traditional “F” keys, which is pretty impressive. But what is also pretty amazing about the retina-enabled bar is that it can adapt to the software being used.

Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said, “It’s a retina display, multi-touch, responding to gestures and taps. We call it Touch Bar. First, it replaces the standard system functions, but it goes way beyond that. It adapts to whatever software you’re using.”

On the end of the new Touch Bar is a fingerprint scanner, which has never been offered in Apple’s products before.

Apple notes that the new 13-inch MacBook Pro can be equipped with dual-core versions of the Intel i5 or i7 processor, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB storage and Intel’s Iris 550 integrated graphics chip with 103% faster gaming performance and 76% faster video editing and 3D graphics.

The 15-inch model is far more powerful and will be the new favored laptop by video editors, the new MacBook comes with a quad-core version of Intel’s i7 processor, 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. It also adds the AMD Radeon Pro 450 with 4 GB of video RAM.

Apple states that both models have a supposed lifespan of 10 hours, but if it is anything like the iPhone7, it is likely to fall short of its official battery life.

The new laptops will go on immediate sale in Europe and US, with the price in the latter coming in at $1,799 for the 13-inch while the 15-inch will cost $2,399.

There is currently no price listed for the items on Iran’s shopping websites, but expect them to be listed by the end of the current Iranian month with prices competitive with international counterparts.

Like the iPhones, the MacBooks will not be officially supported by Apple due to ongoing sanctions that bar US companies from trading in Iran.
