Iran has devised a system that automatically filters offensive websites and “cleans” the Internet of indecent content, said Iran’s Communications and Information Technology Minister Mahmoud Vaezi on Tuesday.
According to Vaezi, after Iran’s first phase of the smart-filtering system was implemented, inappropriate content within websites was rendered inaccessible without blocking the site, ISNA reported.
The minister stated that this system had been applied to a certain social media application, without naming the app or the website.
Vaezi added that before the implementation of the system, nearly 5% of the content on the application were inappropriate, but the number has since dropped to 1%.
The minister announced that the second phase of the smart-filtering system is in its final testing stage.
Vaezi added that the third phase of the system will be implemented soon, which would require users to identify themselves with an ID code. He didn’t elaborate on the ID code.
