Iran and South Korea have agreed to expand scientific cooperation, a deputy science minister of Iran said.Hossein Salar Amoli made the statement in a meeting with President of the Korean National Institute for International Education Kim Kwang-ho in Tehran on Wednesday, The representatives of the two counties discussed ways of expanding scientific cooperation, Mehr News Agency reported. Representatives of 13 South Korean universities and 38 Iranian universities and higher education and research institutes also attended the meeting. “Iran is moving toward knowledge-based economy and for this purpose, expansion of academic and scientific cooperation with top countries in science and technology has been placed on top of the agenda,” Amoli said. Lauding the high standards of South Korea’s universities, he said Iran plans to improve mutual academic cooperation with South Korea. Amoli noted that last year, 13 Iranian universities were placed by Thomson Reuters rankings among top universities in the world. “Our universities have the required capacities to welcome academic delegations from various countries,” he said.
