Irancell, the country's second most popular mobile phone operator, and Bank Mellat have come together to offer a new payment service. According to an Irancell press release, holders of Irancell pay-as-you-go SIM cards can now pay for their bills with direct debit. With the new recharging service, users—who also do their banking with Bank Mellat—allow Irancell to automatically extract money when their balance reaches a certain amount. Users will receive a text message informing them that their credit has been increased to the prior agreed amount. The feature can be activated via Bank Mellat's website as well as Irancell's website and mobile application. Irancell will make the service available for customers of other banks in the near future. The service marks the first company in Iran to work with the commonly used (outside of Iran) direct debit system.
