The first round of Iranian Technicians Olympiad rounded off this week.

Focused on the repair of four major categories of mobile phones and tablets, household appliances, air-conditioning units and home entertainment devices, the event was attended by more than 2,000 contestants.

Senior managers of Iran’s Center of Instructors of Iran Technical & Vocational Training Organization and the top CEOs of Samsung home appliances division were present at the closing event, local technology website Zoomit reported.

Hamidreza Khanpour, director general of TVTO, explained that a fifth of the 2,000 people who had signed up made it to the second round. Finally, 10 people from each group were qualified to attend the final competitions. Hence, 40 finalists competed by performing specialized technical tasks.

Eventually, three winners were announced in each category. The top winners were each given 30 Azadi gold coins and those who ranked second and third received 20 and 10 Azadi coins respectively.

Khanpour added that the event aimed to promote technicality and entrepreneurship.

"We aim to develop jobs and businesses, and increase the productivity of workforce," he said.

As part of Samsung's Corporate Social Responsibility campaign in Iran, the two organizers have planned extensive educational workshops that aim to help Iranian youth get steady jobs.

CEO of Samsung home appliances in Iran, Bumsuk Hong, noted that the event had been warmly received and the company will again hold the event next year.
