Shatel Internet, Iran’s oldest ADSL provider, has announced at a press conference that it can now offer users 100 Mbps to 300 Mbps Internet connections.  The group’s President Mohammad Hassan Shanesaz-Zadeh said the company has been given the official permission by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to offer the services on the traditional copper-line service, SINA Press reports.  The initial offering of the superfast Internet will begin in Tehran and then spread to other subsidiary companies owned by the Shatel group, according to the report.  Shatel has made large efforts in recent months to fend off against the rise of 3G and 4G Internet services by the company’s multitude of non-fixed line competitors.  According to the Telecommunications Company of Iran, the country currently has 29,655,000 fixed line connections, with 5,665,000 people registered for broadband.
