Iranian researchers have designed and developed a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft with patrol, reconnaissance and rescue capabilities in addition to imaging from high levels.

“The concept has been adopted from flying robots and operational models have been produced in small and medium sizes," Morteza Dadar, the inventor of VTOL, was quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency.

Dadar said besides flying, this aircraft has been equipped with a video surveillance system that allows simultaneous imaging to help identify the environment.

“Therefore, this robot is a great achievement for reconnaissance and rescue purposes,” he said. The researcher noted that in order to use new technologies for controlling access and identification, image processing patterns have been incorporated in the robot so that by using these algorithms it will become independent of operator commands and guiding.

The VTOL has been designed and built in collaboration with another researcher, Sajjad Qabiti, which has won the top prize in several academic competitions.
