Iran’s satellite hub project dubbed "Homa" was inaugurated in Mashhad by the governor of Khorasan Razavi Province.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi participated via videoconferencing.

Speaking during the inaugural ceremony on Tuesday, Governor of Razavi Khorasan Province Alireza Rashidian deemed "communications management" as one of the most fundamental needs of the country during crises, Mehr News Agency reported.

“Loss of communication channels is the first incident to occur after natural disasters such as earthquake. This fact necessitates the launch of satellite hubs,” he said.

Noting that Homa has the capability of establishing communications while in motion from inside the aircraft or automobiles, Rashidian said the inauguration of this project will help establish communications between various parts of the country in the shortest span of time during crises.

With Iran being prone to natural disasters, especially having remote regions that are inaccessible, the inauguration of this satellite hub will ease communications with such areas.

The main objectives of the satellite hub project are to optimize and upgrade satellite capacities, meet the communication needs of special clients, facilitate access to affected areas and provide services to remote parts of the country through audio, data and video communications.
