Iran and Pakistan inaugurated an international optical fiber project in a ceremony attended by Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi.

Vaezi attended a series of opening ceremonies in Iran’s southeastern Province of Sistan-Baluchestan and put the optical fiber cable linking Iran and Pakistan into operation.

“Sistan-Baluchestan Province has turned into one of the leading provinces in terms of development of communications and Internet technologies,” said Mahmoud Taheri who is in charge of communications and information technology of the province, Mehr News Agency reports.

The Iranian minister also inaugurated a number of other projects, including the intra-provincial optical fiber cables of 700 kilometers and 620 kilometers.

“The international project has been launched to provide Pakistani bandwidth and international communications transit in Zahedan.”

The optical fiber stretches for about 700 kilometers.

Connecting the two countries, the network has been on agenda since 2007, to improve the bandwidth of Pakistan and extend Iran’s transit of international information. Meanwhile, to standardize the postal-address-locating systems, Vaezi presided over the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understaning between the Post Company of Iran and the provincial authority of Sistan-Baluchestan.
