Telecoms Minister Mahmoud Vaezi, heading a delegation of top telecommunications professionals, is in the Swiss city of Geneva to attend the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2015.
Vaezi is due to deliver a policy statement during the High-Level Track Forum (26–27 May 2015) attended by high-ranking officials of the wider WSIS Stakeholder community, representing the government, private sector, civil society, academia and international organizations, Mehr News Agency reports. Vaezi is also set to meet with a number of foreign officials and counterparts on the sidelines of the forum.
The summit will be held at the International Telecommunications Union and World Intellectual Property Organization headquarters, Geneva, between 25 and 29 May 2015. The overall theme of the WSIS Forum 2015 is "Innovating Together: Enabling ICTs for Sustainable Development."
The forum represents the world’s largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for Development’ community, says the organization's website. This forum will also provide structured opportunities to network, learn and participate in multi-stakeholder discussions and consultations on future telephony networking implementation. Iran's presence this year is likely to set out the next five years of implementation of communications infrastructure and transnational agreements for the country. It could also herald a renaissance in infrastructure investment.
