Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi has called for the improvement of the performance and speed of internet connections in the country this year (started March 21), ISNA reported on Saturday. Vaezi, who made the remarks in a meeting with the deputies and managers of his ministry, also announced that the administration seeks to double the domestic telecommunications capacity. There are about 8 million internet users in Iran and the government is aimed at increasing the penetration rate in near future. "Iranians own 20 million smart phones, 8 million of which are connected to the internet," he said. Improving the comprehensive national data center is the other focal point of the Rouhani administration in the current year, Vaezi added.
