Foreign exchange rates were down Thursday with the dollar retreating to below 240,000 rials in Tehran's free market.
One greenback fetched 238,400 rials losing 2,000 rials or 0.84%. the euro lost more than 2,690 rials to reach 286,840 rials, down 0.94%, and the UK pound sterling was worth 331,720 rials or 1.4% less compared to the earlier session. The UAE dirham was quoted at 65,600 rials down 0.92%.
The dollar logged a 0.16% loss in licensed exchange shops affiliated to the Central Bank of Iran and was quoted at 228,710 rials
In the regulated market, the domestic wholesale currency market, the American currency was down 0.16% worth 233,330 rials, according to the Persian-language economic website eghtesadnews.
The regulated market is a network of banks and certified moneychangers working under CBI supervision who deal in wholesale forex trade.
Influenced by forex rates, the domestic gold market also declined. The Emami gold coin was worth 101.6 million rials, down 1.57 million rials or 1.55% compared to Wednesday.
Half Bahar Azadi gold coin was down 2.6% to close at 58 million rials and one gram of 18-karat gold was worth 10.06 million rials down 0.98%.
