Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestler Saied Abdevali in the 75 kg category won the bronze medal in the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on  August 15.

Abdevali overcame Peter Bacsi of Hungary 3-1 and added a bronze to the tally of Iran’s medals, Mehr News Agency reported.

Meanwhile, much to everyone's chagrin, Hamid Sourian, who was one of Iran's favorites to pick gold in the 59 kg category, conceded two bitter defeats and was eliminated from the Olympics. Sourian marks the most successful Iranian wrestler who has won six world gold medals so far and a title in the Olympics.

With the two gold medals in weightlifting grabbed by Kianoush Rostami and Sohrab Moradi, Iran has three medals at the moment and is ranked 22nd in the medal standings.

With six days left for the games to conclude, Iran still has prospects to win colorful medals as hopes rest on Hassan Rahimi, Reza Yazdani and Komail Qasemi in freestyle and Omid Norouzi in the Greco Roman style wrestling, Farzan Ashourzadeh, Mehdi Khodabakhshi, and Sajjad Mardani in taekwondo and Behdad Salimi in weightlifting, and the national volleyball team which has qualified for the quarterfinals.

The Rio Olympics end on August 21.
