Tehran Municipality has installed smart kiosks in the capital through which residents can have free access to WiFi Internet and other electronic services.
With the aim of increasing access to speedy Internet services through the smart kiosks, the TM wants to help enable the people to connect to the World Wide Web for a limited time for free.
Services offered through the smart kiosks are not limited to free WiFi as users can log in to quickly view city maps, find local markets, gyms, restaurants, and mosques, and check the balance of their electronic transport cards (used for bus and subway travel plus pay for public parking space) ISNA reported.
Checking the weather forecast and national calendar events are also possible along with monitoring the air pollution and traffic flow.
The initiative is from the TM’s Information and Communications Technology Organization. The organization’s director Mohammad Farjoud says the smart kiosks are operational near San’at Square (Shahrak Gharb) in northwest Tehran.
“Smart kiosks are in San’at Square as well as Milad-e Nour, Lidoma and Platin shopping centers.”
Kiosks will soon be installed near key shopping centers and crowded public places across the metropolis, Farjoud said.
In line with efforts to promote the use of smart technologies in the sprawling capital, the municipality recently launched an electronic system through which people can easily notify TM authorities when there is a problem or inconvenience related to it.
The projects are manifestations of the progress toward making Tehran a smart city.
TM is not the only entity offering free WiFi services in the capital. Major communication operators have also installed public WiFi access points across the megacity to promote their services and add to their revenues.
