Iran's Colossal University Entrance Exam Concludes

Over one million students competed in the nationwide university entrance exam for the new academic year (starting in September) during a two-day marathon locally known as Konkur which started on June 28.

According to statistics released by the National Educational Assessment Organization (Sanjesh Organization), 59.23% of students who sat the exam were women (almost 600,000) and the remaining 40.77% were male.

The number of exam attendees has increased by thousands compared to the year before, with figures showing a 2.7% rise, translating into 27,000 students.

Hossein Tavakkoli, a top adviser with Sanjesh Organization, says the students applying for majors related to biological sciences outnumber the rest of the fields put together, with 642,451 students vying to carve out a career out of medicine and health-related majors.

The second most-sought after the field is surprisingly humanities, with 205,026 students attending the exam held on Thursday, followed by math and physics with 144,550 students who took the massive test also on Thursday.

Test keys are already coming out for those eager to check their answers. The preliminary results are expected to be released in the final days of July.
